 The iEdge SG ESG Transparency Index measures the performance of sustainable companies and trusts listed in Singapore. Currently the Index is comprised of 112 constituents that make up S$560 billion in market value and have seen S$1.39 billion in average daily turnover for the 2020 year through to 9 June.  Despite the swings of recent years, the iEdge SG ESG Transparency Index has a history of performing similar to the free-float market capitalisation weighted FTSE ST All-Share Index benchmark. The constituents of the iEdge SG ESG Transparency Index are weighted based on a function of the free-float market capitalisation and their Environmental, Social and Governance (“ESG”) score percentile ranks relative to their peer-group from within the Asia Pacific region. The two Indices maintain a similar number of constituents, with recent performances illustrated below.

The iEdge SG ESG Transparency Index’s recent gain in total return of 31.3% from 23 March to 9 June has coincided with sharp declines in global economic output, while policy focus has seen stable money markets and globally synchronised fiscal stimulus. The key social and economic risk going into 2H20 is the potential for second waves of COVID-19.  iEdge SG ESG Transparency Index 
To be eligible for inclusion to the iEdge SG ESG Transparency Index, the minimum sustainability reporting requirement is to have an ESG assessment performed by Sustainalytics.   
The constituents of this Index are weighted based on a function of the free-float market capitalisation and their ESG score percentile ranks relative to their peer-group from within the Asia Pacific region. Any effort made by the company or trust to report adequately on sustainability, and conscientiously provide the necessary transparency, is one of the key steps toward satisfying sustainability requirements. 
From there, Sustainalytics adjudge the quality and depth of disclosure. Sustainalytics applies a comprehensive research framework to large-cap and mid-cap stocks, which includes from 80 to 120 different indicators.  For example, among other risks, indicators are used to assess:

Corporate Governance risks: include quality and integrity of the company's board and management, company ownership structure, shareholder rights and remunerations systems.</li>
	<li>
Data Privacy and Security risks: include data governance practices including how data is collected, used managed and protected.</li>
	<li>
Product Governance risks: includes how companies manage responsibilities to clients with emphasis on quality management systems, marketing practices, fair billing and post-sales responsibilities.</li>
</ul>
 
 Note that a core research framework, which uses a subset of approximately 20 indicators researched under the comprehensive research framework, is applied to smaller cap stocks.   
Sustainalytics performs an annual assessment of the companies that are considered index eligible after each September review date. This assessment is then delivered no later than the second week of December of each year and factored into the index reviews at each subsequent review date until the next annual refresh of the ESG scores. As discussed in a recent Market Update click <a href="https://www.sgx.com/research-education/market-updates/20200511-esg-leaders-averaged-40-returns-23-march">here</a>, recent years have seen ESG Factors replace Corporate Social Responsibility as self-regulation metrics for listed companies. This has largely been demand-driven, with a surge in the number (and size) of market participants pursuing socially responsible investments and sustainable investing. 38 Index Constituents Net Bought by Institutions Since 23 March 
As many as 38 of the of 112 constituents of the iEdge SG ESG Transparency Index have been recipient of net institutional buying since the major market lows on 23 March. 
These 38 stocks averaged a 38% decline in total return for the 2020 year through to 23 March, five percentage points less than the iEdge SG ESG Transparency Index decline of 33%. However, these 38 stocks with net institutional buying from the 23 March through to 9 June, gained 42% over the 11 weeks, outpacing the iEdge SG ESG Transparency Index by 11 percentage points. 
Since 23 March, the 10 stocks of the iEdge SG ESG Transparency Index that have seen the most net buying by institutions have averaged 39.6% gains for the period, bringing their 2020 year to 9 June returns to very near breakeven at -0.1%. 
The 38 stocks of the iEdge SG ESG Transparency Index that were subject to net buying by institutions since 23 March are tabled below and sort by the highest net buy amount.

This has largely been demand-driven, with a surge in the number (and size) of market participants pursuing socially responsible investments and sustainable investing.  38 Index Constituents Net Bought by Institutions Since 23 March  
As many as 38 of the of 112 constituents of the iEdge SG ESG Transparency Index have been recipient of net institutional buying since the major market lows on 23 March.  
These 38 stocks averaged a 38% decline in total return for the 2020 year through to 23 March, five percentage points less than the iEdge SG ESG Transparency Index decline of 33%. However, these 38 stocks with net institutional buying from the 23 March through to 9 June, gained 42% over the 11 weeks, outpacing the iEdge SG ESG Transparency Index by 11 percentage points.  
Since 23 March, the 10 stocks of the iEdge SG ESG Transparency Index that have seen the most net buying by institutions have averaged 39.6% gains for the period, bringing their 2020 year to 9 June returns to very near breakeven at -0.1%.
