<li>As they have only experienced limited rebounds from the 19-Apr trough, they are set to catch up. Also, their earnings prospects look positive this year. </li>

Li Auto (2015 HK), Link REIT (823 HK), China Mengniu Dairy Co (2319 HK), Hang Lung Properties (101 HK) and Galaxy Entertainment Group (27 HK) are massive laggards YTD.
As they have only experienced limited rebounds from the 19-Apr trough, they are set to catch up. Also, their earnings prospects look positive this year. 


HK Strategy: Where Are the Short-Term Opportunities?

<li>With US inflation figures higher than expectations, there is an increase in risk that the Fed's next move may be a hike.  Some HSI constituents are set to benefit.</li>
<li>
<a href="https://www.smartkarma.com/entities/orient-overseas-international" target="_blank" data-smartkarma-citation="entities:801:1" rel="noopener">Orient Overseas International (316 HK)</a>, <a href="https://www.smartkarma.com/entities/budweiser-brewing-co-apac-ltd" target="_blank" data-smartkarma-citation="entities:28077:1" rel="noopener">Budweiser Brewing APAC (1876 HK),</a> and <a href="https://www.smartkarma.com/entities/galaxy-entertainment-group-limited" target="_blank" data-smartkarma-citation="entities:806:1" rel="noopener">Galaxy Entertainment Group (27 HK)</a> have significant USD net cash position and will be gainers.</li>

<a href="https://www.smartkarma.com/entities/sunny-optical-technology-group" target="_blank" data-smartkarma-citation="entities:13363:1" rel="noopener">Sunny Optical Technology Group (2382 HK)</a> and <a href="https://www.smartkarma.com/entities/haier-smart-home-co-ltd-b3ef445f-0f54-4586-8c58-9073de98d60e" target="_blank" data-smartkarma-citation="entities:31105:1" rel="noopener">Haier Smart Home (6690 HK)</a> have large China operations but they are net long on USD balance and this will make them beneficiaries.</li>

With US inflation figures higher than expectations, there is an increase in risk that the Fed's next move may be a hike.  Some HSI constituents are set to benefit.

Orient Overseas International (316 HK), Budweiser Brewing APAC (1876 HK), and Galaxy Entertainment Group (27 HK) have significant USD net cash position and will be gainers.

Sunny Optical Technology Group (2382 HK) and Haier Smart Home (6690 HK) have large China operations but they are net long on USD balance and this will make them beneficiaries.

<li>Back on the 26 June, Chow Tai Fook (CTFE) made a pre-conditional voluntary Offer for <a href="https://www.smartkarma.com/entities/new-world-development" target="_blank" data-smartkarma-citation="entities:7037:1" rel="noopener">New World (17 HK)</a>'s 60.88%-held <a href="https://www.smartkarma.com/entities/nws-holdings-ltd" target="_blank" data-smartkarma-citation="entities:3350:1" rel="noopener">NWS (659 HK)</a> at HK$9.15/share, a 22.2% premium to undisturbed.</li>
<li>The Cheng-family-backed CTFE and connected parties held 45.24% of NWD, therefore the parent was effectively injecting ~US$2.75bn of cash into NWD for its NWS stake.</li>
<li>The pre-cons are now done, with a 13 October despatch date for the Composite Document. Technically, this could be wrapped up before NWS' final dividend ex-date. That's worth exploring further.</li>
</ul>


Back on the 26 June, Chow Tai Fook (CTFE) made a pre-conditional voluntary Offer for New World (17 HK)'s 60.88%-held NWS (659 HK) at HK$9.15/share, a 22.2% premium to undisturbed.
The Cheng-family-backed CTFE and connected parties held 45.24% of NWD, therefore the parent was effectively injecting ~US$2.75bn of cash into NWD for its NWS stake.
The pre-cons are now done, with a 13 October despatch date for the Composite Document. Technically, this could be wrapped up before NWS' final dividend ex-date. That's worth exploring further.

<li>Tactically, it isn't attractive owning <a href="https://www.smartkarma.com/entities/toshiba-corp" target="_blank" data-smartkarma-citation="entities:637:1" rel="noopener">Toshiba (6502 JP)</a> at 1% spread. Expect it to trade wider. There is still a fair bit of stock to come down the pipe.</li>
<li>Because of significant business overlap, <a href="https://www.smartkarma.com/entities/ck-infrastructure-holdings-l" target="_blank" data-smartkarma-citation="entities:163:1" rel="noopener">CK Infrastructure Holdings (1038 HK)</a> looks very similar to <a href="https://www.smartkarma.com/entities/power-assets-holdings-ltd" target="_blank" data-smartkarma-citation="entities:788:1" rel="noopener">Power Assets Holdings (6 HK)</a>. And CKI is coming up cheap on my monitor versus PAH.</li>
<li>There is less fundamental alpha to <a href="https://www.smartkarma.com/entities/rakuten-bank-ltd" target="_blank" data-smartkarma-citation="entities:35638:1" rel="noopener">Rakuten Bank (5838 JP)</a> than before and more "just keep it because it is going up"-ness to the trade. </li>

There is less fundamental alpha to Rakuten Bank (5838 JP) than before and more "just keep it because it is going up"-ness to the trade.
