<p>Starting this year, KRX will rebalance the KOSPI size index series (LargeCap, MidCap, and SmallCap) twice a year. Until last year, it was done once a year in March (the option expiration date). <span>However, from this year, the rebalancing is done twice a year, in March and September.</span></p><div class="content-highlight"><ul>
<li><strong>The screening method is simple and clear. It is based on the 3-month average daily market cap.</strong></li>
<li><strong>LargeCap includes 1st to 100th, and MidCap takes 101st to 300th.</strong></li>
<li><strong>The screening base date is the last trading day of February and August. So, this September rebalancing review period is June 1 to August 31.</strong></li>

<p>The Korea Exchange (KRX) will announce the results of the June 2021 review of the <a href="https://www.smartkarma.com/entities/korea-stock-exchange-kospi-200-index" target="_blank" data-smartkarma-citation="entities:26021:1" rel="noopener">Korea Stock Exchange Kospi 200 Index (KOSPI2 INDEX)</a> in May with the changes becoming effective after the close of trading on 10 June.</p><p>Currently, we see <a href="https://www.smartkarma.com/entities/taihan-electric-wire-co-ltd" target="_blank" data-smartkarma-citation="entities:11551:1" rel="noopener">Taihan Electric Wire (001440 KS)</a> being included in the index and <a href="https://www.smartkarma.com/entities/taeyoung-engineering-construction-co-ltd" target="_blank" data-smartkarma-citation="entities:18740:1" rel="noopener">Taeyoung Engineering &amp; Construction (009410 KS)</a> being deleted, with a few stocks as close adds/ deletes. <a href="https://www.smartkarma.com/entities/taeyoung-engineering-construction-co-ltd" target="_blank" data-smartkarma-citation="entities:18740:1" rel="noopener">Taeyoung Engineering &amp; Construction (009410 KS)</a>'s expected deletion is a result of the demerger of TY Holdings (363280 KS) in September which has significantly lowered its market cap.</p><p><a href="https://www.smartkarma.com/entities/krafton-inc" target="_blank" data-smartkarma-citation="entities:28956:1" rel="noopener">Krafton Inc (1486402D KS)</a>'s estimated market cap of US$26-30bn would see it included in the index as a Fast Entry if it lists before the end of April which would put <a href="https://www.smartkarma.com/entities/sebang-global-battery-co-ltd" target="_blank" data-smartkarma-citation="entities:9618:1" rel="noopener">Sebang Global Battery (004490 KS)</a> at risk of deletion. If Krafton lists by end January/ beginning February (seems unlikely at this point in time), it could be included in the KOSPI 200 in March. If it lists after mid Feb but before end April, Krafton could be included in the index at the June review.</p><p><a href="https://www.smartkarma.com/entities/taihan-electric-wire-co-ltd" target="_blank" data-smartkarma-citation="entities:11551:1" rel="noopener">Taihan Electric Wire (001440 KS)</a> has increased in price sharply over the last month and we would wait for the price to stabilize a bit before buying into the stock.</p>

<p>KRX announced the rebalance to the KOSPI200 index today. There was not much surprise among the new 10 additions, which included stocks such as Samyang Foods, Zinus, and Kiwoom Securities. However, there was some surprises among the deletions including Unid, <a href="https://www.smartkarma.com/entities/dong-a-socio-holdings-co-ltd" target="_blank" data-smartkarma-citation="entities:4271:1" rel="noopener">Dong A Socio Holdings (000640 KS), </a>and <a href="https://www.smartkarma.com/entities/dong-a-st-co-ltd" target="_blank" data-smartkarma-citation="entities:16873:1" rel="noopener">Dong A St (170900 KS)</a>.</p><p>Among the newly included companies, in terms of their fundamental business outlook and reasonable valuations, we think Samyang Foods, Zinus, and Hanwha Systems fit into these categories. We would be cautious on Big Hit Entertainment, CS Wind, and Shinpoong Pharm as we think there could be some sellers on investors that trade on the "sell on news" strategy of being included in KOSPI 200.  </p>
