<li>COP26 (the U.N. international climate change conference) ended on 12 November, and whilst not exactly a smashing success, it was far from the abysmal failure some had predicted.</li>
<li>The Glasgow Climate Pact embodies numerous agreements on critical issues including global warming targets, climate finance, fossil fuels, and international carbon emissions markets.</li>
<li>Agreements must be followed up with action, so cautious optimism for now, but they have the potential to create new markets and investment opportunities worth trillions of dollars.</li>

Coal is a combustible black or brownish-black sedimentary rock usually occurring in rock strata in layers or veins called coal beds or coal seams. The harder forms, such as anthracite coal, can be regarded as metamorphic rock because of later exposure to elevated temperature and pressure. A fossil fuel, coal forms when dead plant matter is converted into peat, which in turn is converted into lignite, then sub-bituminous coal, after that bituminous coal, and lastly anthracite. This involves biological and geological processes that take place over a long period.
