Barito Pacific (BRPT IJ)'s 64.7% stake in Barito Renewables Energy (BREN IJ) (now Indonesia’s largest company by market cap), is worth 8x its market cap. That's unsustainable.

<ul><li>The electric-vehicle unit of defaulted property developer China Evergrande Group reported that in the first half of 2023 it delivered 760 cars and its net loss narrowed by almost half from a year earlier to 6.87 billion yuan ($942 million).</li><li>China Evergrande New Energy Vehicle Group Ltd.’s revenue jumped more than fivefold to 155 million yuan, mainly from mass production and delivery of its flagship model, the Hengchi 5, starting last October.</li><li>The electric-car company has been plagued by production delays and setbacks since touting its first Hengchi model as early as 2019 and pledging to rival Tesla within three to five years.</li></ul>

<li>EV start-up Faraday Future (FF) will be de-listed by the Nasdaq if it fails to file its 2021 annual report &amp; Q1 2022 results by May 16th.   </li>
<li>FF has no revenues yet, but plans to start production in Q3. Cash as of March-end was only $273m vs cash burn of $181m &amp; payment obligations of $193m.</li>
<li>FF's growth strategy is risky &amp; relies on the ultra-luxury car market, which is peaking. Without financing, FF may struggle to survive this year.    </li>

The pattern was clear, but one assumes everyone in-group was on the same page.</li>
<li>Two activist shareholders. And long only upping its stake. Heavily discounted <a href="https://www.smartkarma.com/entities/china-merchants-china-direct-investments" target="_blank" data-smartkarma-citation="entities:6862:1" rel="noopener">China Merchants China Direct Investments (133 HK)</a> is in play.</li>
<li>A HUGE new buyback for <a href="https://www.smartkarma.com/entities/kansai-paint-co-ltd" target="_blank" data-smartkarma-citation="entities:13340:1" rel="noopener">Kansai Paint (4613 JP)</a>. Really big. Buy Kansai Paint vs Nippon Paint. One can buy the pop. One can buy any dips after the pop. </li>
