Korea has a presidential election every five years. As for the general election, we have it every four years. The election day falls on the first Wednesday 50 days before the four-year term expires. So, this year it will be April 15.Below are the outcomes of the past five general elections. Korea's political space is quite straightforward. Ever since the military-backed authoritarian regime ended in the late 1980s, Korean voters had consistently faced two major sides (conservative and progressive) even though the names (and the faces) of the political parties on both ends of the spectrum had often changed. <figure class="editor-figure mceNonEditable"><figure class="editor-figure mceNonEditable"><img src="https://static-prod.smartkarma.com/images/media/000/127/637/original/1.png?1586717913" class="editor-image img-responsive" data-smartkarma-image-id="127637"></figure></figure>This time, things are pretty much the same. It is again virtually a two-horse race. United Future Party is the new name of Korea's conservative side. On the other hand, the current ruling party, the Democratic Party of Korea, represents the progressive side. There are more than a dozen smaller political parties on both ends of the political spectrum. But it'd be safe to say that these two parties are the only ones that matter even for this election.
