Three days after raising HK$4bn via a top-up placement, Evergrande Auto (708 HK) ("EA") also officially known as China Evergrande New Energy Vehicle Group announces an intention to list on Shanghai's Sci-Tech Board (also know as the "STAR Market").



Preceding my comments on EA and Asm Pacific Technology (522 HK), are at the top of the weekly setup/unwind tables for Asia-Pacific Holdcos.

<p>Ant Group is not only the largest third-party payment player in China, it is also the no.1 independent player in each of the three non-payment segments by key operating metrics. </p>
<p>We have provided our thoughts on Ant Group from as early as 2018. We have since looked at the company’s past performance, individual segments and some of the regulatory issues. In this note, I’ll compare the company with some of its peers in the payments segment. </p>

<p><strong><em>* ICIJ Points Fingers Post-Swedbank Fiasco: </em></strong>The International Consortium of Investigative Journalists (ICIJ) reviewed over 2,100 suspicious activity reports (SARs), which were filed with the US Treasury’s Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FINCEN). The report suggests that there was about USD 2 tn in questionable transactions between 1999-2017, which were flagged by the sector’s internal compliance officers from over 90 financial institutions;  and</p><p><strong><em>*Expect An Active DOJ Under Biden/Harris: </em></strong>If Biden/Harris win, Deutsche and Turkey’s Halkbank (HALKB.TI) would appear to be most as risk with a more proactive Department of Justice (DOJ). However, not far behind are others including: HSBC Holdings (5.HK/HSBA/LN) and Standard Chartered (2888.HK/STAN.LN). In addition, when mainland Chinese-US relations materially deteriorate under a Biden administration, we would fully anticipate the entire mainland Chinese financial system to be under a magnifying glass.</p>
