In this insight, we review 27 of the largest IPOs in Korea in 2020 and 2021. We discuss the institutional investors demand ratio, lock-up ratios, market caps, IPO offering amounts, and share price performances in different time periods. We conclude that while we should continue to evaluate IPOs in Korea on a case-by-case basis, the overall bullish trend of IPOs has clearly been deteriorating in the past three months.Among the 9 stocks that completed their IPOs in the past three months (June - August), their first day share price performance was an increase of 22% on average. In comparison, among the other 18 stocks that completed their IPOs from February 2020 to May 2021, their first day share price performance was an increase of 81.4% on average.<div class="content-highlight">Among the three major criteria mentioned in this report, the most important is the lock-up ratios, followed by market cap, and then the institutional investors demand. Prudent investors may want to use a combination of these methods to pick the best performing IPOs in Korea.  </div>

Index weight: The BBIG Index is an equal-weight index in which each index constituent is allocated the same weight (8.33%) at each rebalancing. As for the four sub-indices, the top-three largest full market cap stocks are given the weight of 75%, in which each stock is allocated the same weight of 25% at each rebalancing. In contrast, the remaining seven constituents are given the remaining weight of 25%, where their float-adjusted market cap weights them.

The symbolic point of conflict in the evolution of business areas is the MyData Project that the government is promoting. MyData is a business that provides customized financial services by collecting personal credit information scattered across banks, insurance companies, and credit card companies.
Kakao Bank has decided to launch its own MyData business and is preparing to apply for a license for this. Kakao Pay has already obtained a preliminary business license for MyData.

Kakao Bank & Kakao Pay Listings in Close Proximity: Institutional Cannibalization Risk

The listing dates for Korea's four mega IPO stocks, which are currently undergoing the listing process, have been confirmed except for Krafton.<ul>
<li>SD Biosensor is due to go public this Friday, July 16th.</li>
<li>In addition, Kakao Bank has confirmed the listing date on August 5, and Kakao Pay is scheduled to be listed on August 12, a week later.</li>
<li>Krafton is highly likely to be listed between the listing dates of Kakao Bank and Kakao Pay, given the status of its listing process so far.</li>

The listing dates for Korea's four mega IPO stocks, which are currently undergoing the listing process, have been confirmed except for Krafton.
SD Biosensor is due to go public this Friday, July 16th.
In addition, Kakao Bank has confirmed the listing date on August 5, and Kakao Pay is scheduled to be listed on August 12, a week later.
Krafton is highly likely to be listed between the listing dates of Kakao Bank and Kakao Pay, given the status of its listing process so far.
