Periscope Analytics focuses on event-driven trades across Asia Pacific and provides comprehensive, timely and systematic coverage of index changes to major Asia Pacific indices in a structured manner.

The analysis includes forecasted inclusions and exclusions to all major Asian indices that have significant amount of tracking assets, including estimates of passive buy/sell flow on the stocks. Pan American Silver (PAAS) reported a significant increase in mineral reserves and resources estimates, for gold in particular, on the back of the Yamana transaction. Inclusive of MARA, Morococha and Jeronimo, the company’s total proven and probable (P&P) reserves grew 12% y-o-y to 577Moz of contained silver (Ag) and 259% to 13Moz of contained gold (Au). PAAS plans an extensive drilling and exploration campaign for 2023 in order to further upgrade and extend the resource base. While our financial estimates remain unchanged, we have slightly revised our valuation down to US$22.0/share to reflect the reported reserves and resources data.

Pan American Silver - Yamana assets boost mineral resources

Pan American Silver (PAAS) reported its first quarterly results that include the assets acquired as part of the Yamana transaction, with Q2 revenues and adjusted EBITDA of US$640m and US$218m, an improved margin of 34%. Despite somewhat weaker than expected numbers, PAAS maintained its operational and cost guidance for FY23, which points to a visible improvement in performance in H2. Escobal continues to advance through the ILO 169 consultation process, with completion of Phase 2 expected by the authorities in October. We have updated our financial estimates and revised our valuation, which now stands at US$22.2 per share.

The sale is in line with the company’s intention to optimise its project portfolio following the acquisition of Yamana’s Latin American assets earlier this year. It will generate combined cash proceeds of US$593m, plus net smelter return (NSR) royalties, resulting in a stronger balance sheet as well as a significant reduction in care and maintenance (C&M) costs. We will update our estimates and valuation following the release of the Q223 financial results scheduled for 9 August.
