Our process begins by organizing the universe of actively traded stocks into discrete sectors, then into industry groups. We then apply our technical and quantitative tools to identify developing price trends. Once attractive trends are identified within a selected sector or group, we screen for individual stocks which we believe offer the best risk/reward profile. We provide a historical perspective that often reveals, through our long-term charts, how price patterns often repeat themselves over time.

Technical Analysis

Most major indexes are currently trading at the lower end of their May trading ranges. Barring improving headlines regarding tariffs &amp; trade or comments from the Fed suggesting a potential rate cut on the horizon we believe global markets are vulnerable to further weakness. We review all major markets and highlight attractive opportunities within Japan, and global real estate developers, and consumer staples stocks.

Most major indexes are currently trading at the lower end of their May trading ranges. Japan has been a favored pair short bet against the likes of China. The standout chart feature is the rising wedge break of support and reaction rise to test the elevated underside of this trendline (backswing resistance). Very often backswing resistance points are not surpassed and act as a cycle turn point. Yesterday's Nikkei price reversal favors this outcome.We anticipate risk appetite to exhaust for US equities and the China complex once a trade deal is locked in (with drawn out conditions for the market to digest). This would leave the fragile Nikkei technical posture vulnerable to a hard correction cycle. The overall major trend still remains down for Japan (and Korea) unlike China.A higher conviction USD/JPY peak will unfold at noted RSI and MACD resistance points that are expected to make peaks and a bearish turn cycle.

</div>LIQUIDITY RULES - Despite the continuous stream of negative macroeconomic news from Japan and other economies, financial liquidity trends are the strongest in over two years, and much of this 'boom' is flowing into risk assets. Large-scale repatriation of offshore funds by US companies has also helped boost the US dollar against the yen. The Market Composite responded by rising 2.3% over the last two weeks, although only by 1% in US dollar terms.WEAK MACRO - Net exports and higher inventories offset private investment and consumption during the fourth quarter, resulting in flat GDP growth year-on-year. January industrial production fell to the lowest level in 30 months, and, with the manufacturing PMI nearing 50, the prospect is for further weakness this quarter. Inventories continue to rise and, in North Asia, to levels last seen in 2005.
