Periscope Analytics focuses on event-driven trades across Asia Pacific and provides comprehensive, timely and systematic coverage of index changes to major Asia Pacific indices in a structured manner.

The analysis includes forecasted inclusions and exclusions to all major Asian indices that have significant amount of tracking assets, including estimates of passive buy/sell flow on the stocks. The service also provides commentary and impact of market consultations, ground rule changes, and other events (IPOs, spin-offs, M&A) that could lead to index changes and passive flow.

<li>There are 8 migrations from MidCap to LargeCap, 7 LargeCap to MidCap, 8 new additions to MidCap, 17 SmallCap to MidCap, 23 MidCap to SmallCap, 5 new additions to SmallCap.</li>
<li>The migrations from SmallCap to MidCap have outperformed the stocks migrating between other segments by a huge margin over the last few months.</li>
<li>Given the huge outperformance and looking at how the migrations have performed historically, we'd expect the stocks migrating to MidCap to underperform post implementation of the changes.</li>
</ul>


There are 8 migrations from MidCap to LargeCap, 7 LargeCap to MidCap, 8 new additions to MidCap, 17 SmallCap to MidCap, 23 MidCap to SmallCap, 5 new additions to SmallCap.
The migrations from SmallCap to MidCap have outperformed the stocks migrating between other segments by a huge margin over the last few months.
Given the huge outperformance and looking at how the migrations have performed historically, we'd expect the stocks migrating to MidCap to underperform post implementation of the changes.


KOSPI Size Indices - Changes in September & Implications

<li>The review period for the September rebalance of the KOSPI Size Indices started 1 June and will end 31 August. The changes will be implemented at the close 7 September.</li>
<li>We see 7 migrations from MidCap to LargeCap, 6 migrations from LargeCap to MidCap, 7 new adds to MidCap, and 17 migrations from SmallCap to MidCap.</li>
<li>Historically, stocks migrating from SmallCap to MidCap have outperformed stocks that are migrating between other categories.</li>
</ul>


The review period for the September rebalance of the KOSPI Size Indices started 1 June and will end 31 August. The changes will be implemented at the close 7 September.
We see 7 migrations from MidCap to LargeCap, 6 migrations from LargeCap to MidCap, 7 new adds to MidCap, and 17 migrations from SmallCap to MidCap.
Historically, stocks migrating from SmallCap to MidCap have outperformed stocks that are migrating between other categories.

<li>Ecopro BM (247540 KS) and Kum Yang (001570 KS)'s shares are down 2.5% and 4.5%, respectively today, driven by news of insiders at these companies selling their shares.</li>
<li>It is estimated that the total amount of Ecopro BM shares sold by insiders and related parties was about 20 billion won in July by more than 12 insiders/related parties.</li>
<li>We are increasingly concerned about insiders selling at Ecopro BM and Kum Yang. Coupled with lofty valuations, we think there is a higher probability of downside risk on these names. </li>

Foreign investors have been buyers while retail have been sellers in Ecopro Co and Kum Yang over the last month, while foreign investors have continued to buy Jyp Entertainment.
Short interest on all stocks has dropped over the last month, though there has been a recent tick up in shorts on Jyp Entertainment (035900 KS). 


Korea - A Look at Ecopro, Kumyang & JYP Entertainment

South Korea

Kumho Petrochemical Co., Ltd. manufactures synthetic rubbers, synthetic resins, and rubber chemicals.  The Company's products include styrene butadiene, acrylonitrile butadiene, polystyrene, expandable polystyrene, and antioxidant.  Kumho Petrochemical provides construction, transportation, and financial services through its subsidiaries.

SKC Co., Ltd. manufactures a variety of films, including polyester films, silicon coated films, and inkjet films.  The Company also produces chemical products, such as propylene oxide, propylene glycol, and styrene monomer. In addition, SKC provides materials for photovoltaic.

Hanwha Solution Corporation is a chemical manufacturer.  The Company's products include a line of chlorine alkali chemicals, such as caustic soda, chlorine, and hydrochloric acid.  Hanwha also produces resins including low density polyethylene (LDPE) and polyvinyl chloride (PVC).

Lotte Chemical Corporation manufactures a wide range of petrochemical products such as high density polyethylene, polypropylene, and ethylene glycol. The Company's products are used in manufacturing general housewares, pipes, films, fabrics, bottles, containers, and automotive parts.

Capro Corporation manufactures and exports caprolactam, a key raw material for nylon.  The Company's customers include nylon manufacturers such as Hyosung Corporation, Kolon Industries, and  Taekwang Industrial.  In addition, Capro also produces ammonia sulfate fertilizer for industrial and agricultural uses.

Hansol Chemical Co., Ltd. manufactures chemical products such as hydrogen peroxide, benzol peroxide, urea resin, polyacrylamide, trimethylolpropane, and latex.  The Company supplies its products to the paper, textile, and food industries.

Dongjin Semichem Co., Ltd. produces fine chemicals for semiconductor and liquid crystal display (LCD) manufacturing.  The Company's products include photoresist materials and epoxy molding compounds.  In addition, Dongjin Semichem also produces chemical foaming agents for plastic and rubber applications.

LOTTE Fine Chemical Co., Ltd. produces general and fine chemicals. The Company produces ammonia, epichlorohydrin, caustic soda, and dimethylformamide. LOTTE Fine Chemical also manufactures chemicals used in pharmaceutical and paint manufacturing areas.

OCI Holdings Company Ltd. operates chemical business. The Company manufactures inorganic chemicals, petroleum and coal chemicals, fine chemicals, renewable energy and insulation materials. OCI Holdings markets its products primarily throughout Korea with limited overseas.

VT GMP Co.,Ltd. manufactures and markets laminating machines. The Company produces and sells pouch laminators, roll laminators, and other products. VT GMP also produces and sells laminating films.

MITSUBISHI GAS CHEMICAL COMPANY, INC. produces chemical products such as xylene and methanol.  The Company also manufactures engineering plastics and specialty chemicals.

NOF CORPORATION is a diversified chemical producer whose products include processed oil/fats, explosives and other chemical products. The Company has manufacturing/sales subsidiaries in US, Indonesia and China.

Incitec Pivot Limited is a fertilizer manufacturer and supplier, and also a supplier for explosives products and services. The Company has operations throughout the United States, Canada, Mexico and Australia.

Hangzhou Oxygen Plant Group Co.,Ltd. manufactures industrial gas machinery products. The Company produces air separation equipment, small-scale air separation equipment, liquefied nitrogen wash cold boxes, liquefied natural gas separation equipment, and other products. Hangzhou Oxygen Plant Group markets its products worldwide.

Finolex Industries Limited manufactures PVC pipes and fittings, which are sold primarily to businesses in the agricultural sector.  The Company also manufactures PVC resins, which are used as raw materials for PVC pipes and fittings.

Castrol (India) Limited manufactures and markets automotive and industrial lubricants and specialty products. The Company's products include lubricating oils, greases and brake fluids. The Company also manufactures cable filling compounds, jellies, waxes and other items.

Zhejiang Longsheng Group Co., Ltd. manufactures a variety of dyes including high intensity and rapid-dying Lonsperse Dye. The Company sells its products domestically and exports worldwide.

Quaker Chemical Corporation produces, develops, and markets custom-formulated chemical specialty products.  The Company also provides fluid management services for manufacturers around the world, primarily in the steel, automotive, and can industries.

Hengyi Petrochemical Co., Ltd. manufactures polyester and other petrochemical products.

Zhejiang Weixing New Building Materials Co.,Ltd. develops, manufactures and sells plastic pipes.  The Company's products include poly propylene random (PPR) pipe, polyethylene (PE) pipe, high density polyethylene (HDPE) pipe, and polybutene (PB) pipe.
