<li>We highlight short interest changes in BHP, Woodside Energy, Rio Tinto, Igo, NAB, Insurance Austra, Qbe Insurance, Ventia Services.</li>

We analyzed the changes in short interest of ASX Stocks as of Sep 8th (reported today) which has an aggregated short interest worth USD15.8bn.

<li>The changes at the <a href="https://www.smartkarma.com/entities/nikkei-225" target="_blank" data-smartkarma-citation="entities:22909:1" rel="noopener">Nikkei 225</a> September rebalance were announced on 4 September. The rebalance of the <a href="https://www.smartkarma.com/entities/hong-kong-hang-seng-index" target="_blank" data-smartkarma-citation="entities:22899:1" rel="noopener">HSI</a>, <a href="https://www.smartkarma.com/entities/hang-seng-china-enterprises-index" target="_blank" data-smartkarma-citation="entities:22900:1" rel="noopener">HSCEI</a>, <a href="https://www.smartkarma.com/entities/hang-seng-tech-index" target="_blank" data-smartkarma-citation="entities:31367:1" rel="noopener">HSTECH</a> and HSCI was implemented on the same day.</li>
<li>The changes to the MVIS indices were announced on 8 September and will be implemented at the close on 15 September. The S&amp;P/ASX family will also rebalance on 15 September.</li>
<li>After a month and a half of big inflows to onshore China ETFs, there were small outflows from a lot of ETFs during the week.</li>

The changes at the Nikkei 225 September rebalance were announced on 4 September. The rebalance of the HSI, HSCEI, HSTECH and HSCI was implemented on the same day.
The changes to the MVIS indices were announced on 8 September and will be implemented at the close on 15 September. The S&amp;P/ASX family will also rebalance on 15 September.
After a month and a half of big inflows to onshore China ETFs, there were small outflows from a lot of ETFs during the week.

<li>There are a bunch of stocks that are constituents of the S&amp;P/ASX family of indices and could go private or merge prior to the next scheduled rebalance in December.</li>
<li>That will lead to ad hoc inclusions for the <a href="https://www.smartkarma.com/entities/s-p-asx-200" target="_blank" data-smartkarma-citation="entities:22901:1" rel="noopener">S&amp;P/ASX 200 (AS51 INDEX)</a> and could also lead to ad hoc inclusions for the S&amp;P/ASX 50 and S&amp;P/ASX 100 indices.</li>
<li>There is a fair amount of short interest on some of the potential inclusions and short covering due to index inclusion could take the stocks higher.</li>
</ul>

Mergers, Acquisitions and Potential S&P/ASX Index Ad Hoc Inclusions

<li>The review period for the MVIS Global Rare Earth/Strategic Metals Index ended 31 August. The changes will be announced on 8 September and implemented at the close on 15 September.</li>
<li>Coming in around the 85% cutoff, <a href="https://www.smartkarma.com/entities/rising-nonferrous-metals-share-co-ltd" target="_blank" data-smartkarma-citation="entities:14860:1" rel="noopener">Rising Nonferrous Metals Share (600259 CH)</a> is a potential inclusion. There are two stocks that are very close to the 98% deletion threshold.</li>
<li>
<a href="https://www.smartkarma.com/entities/lake-resources-nl" target="_blank" data-smartkarma-citation="entities:14597:1" rel="noopener">Lake Resources Nl (LKE AU)</a> is a deletion from the <a href="https://www.smartkarma.com/entities/s-p-asx-200" target="_blank" data-smartkarma-citation="entities:22901:1" rel="noopener">S&amp;P/ASX 200 (AS51 INDEX)</a> at the September rebalance and there could be more to sell if deleted from this index.</li>

Perseus Mining Limited is a mining and exploration company. The Company acquires, explores, develops, mines, and produces gold. Perseus Mining conducts its mining operations in Africa and Australia.

Genesis Minerals Limited is an Australian-based mineral exploration company. The Company acquires commercially significant mineral deposits that can be brought into production.

AVZ Minerals Limited operates as a mineral exploration company. The Company acquires, develops, mines, and produces lithium, tin, tantalum, and other base metals. AVZ Minerals serves customers globally.

De Grey Mining Limited is an exploration and mining company focusing on zinc, gold, platinum, silver and base metals.

Shanxi Taigang Stainless Steel Co., Ltd. manufactures and markets stainless steel ingots and billets.  The Company also processes and produces other steel products including hot rolled steel plates and tandem steel plates.

China Minmetals Rare Earth Co Ltd engages in south ionic rare earth separation and processing. The Company mainly focuses on the production and distribution of rare earth oxide, rare earth metal, and highly processed products of rare earth, as well as the research and consult service of rare earth techniques.

Yunnan Tin Co., Ltd. produces and markets tin, tin alloy products, and tin chemicals.  The Company sells its tin products under the YT trade mark.

Ta Chen Stainless Pipe Co., Ltd. manufactures and markets various types of stainless steel pipes, butt-welded fittings, casting fittings, and stainless steel ball valves. Hindustan Copper Limited is a vertically integrated multi-unit copper producer in India engaged in a wide spectrum of activities ranging from mining, beneficiation, smelting, refining and manufacturing of copper cathodes, continuous cast wire rods and wire bars.
