The Chinese authorities have finally approved the longawaited Shenzhen-Hong Kong Stock Connect. A joint statement by the two regulators in China and Hong Kong stated the timeline in preparing for the second stock connect program would be around four months.This includes the finalisation of trading systems and clearing rules for the exchanges, regulatory approvals, the completion of trading operations and systems for market participants and investor education.We adjust our forecasts to incorporate one month of the Shenzhen Connect but note possible delays as the Shanghai Connect program was pushed back prior to its launch.Analyst: Michael Wu

Our focus is on what we call “Asian bank research, without the noise.” We are interested in the most critical swing-factors for banks, the NPL and credit cycle, and where we believe there is a gap between perception and reality. We do not expect the situation in the United Kingdom to affect Hong Kong Exchange and Clearing's London Metal Exchange, and we believe the underlying equity volume in Hong Kong remains an important driver for the former's near term performance. Revenue from the LME, including the clearing business, represented 18% of group revenue in fiscal 2015, but the functional and reporting currency is the U.S. dollar.We decrease our average daily trading volume assumption by 5% to HKD 91 billion to factor in the weaker-than expected trading volume in the first half. Trading volume may increase in the second half from the possible launch of the Shenzhen Hong Kong Stock Connect, though the timing of the launch is difficult to anticipate.Analyst: Michael Wu, CAIA
