Technical Analysis

Japan has been a favored macro long bet from the 24,000 breakout and more recently from 28,500 lower wedge support. Price action has not been responsive on the SPX surge or during the USD/JPY rally which is typically supportive. We see macro warning signs emerging in the touted rally into late March that sets up a macro short on a rally failure under wedge resistance at 31,500.Bear divergence is maturing that sets up a macro cycle top in late March. This is a sign that Japan is over owned.Tactical bull into strategic sell zone and cycle top that aligns with our SPX 4,040 top zone.

The China equity index futures market has come a long way since index futures started to trade on the <a href="https://www.smartkarma.com/entities/shanghai-shenzhen-csi-300-index" target="_blank" data-smartkarma-citation="entities:22906:1" rel="noopener">Shanghai Shenzhen CSI 300 Index (SHSZ300 INDEX)</a> in 2010. There have been booms and busts, volumes and open interest have soared and plummeted, rules have been relaxed and tightened and relaxed again, and the market continues to move forward.Currently, index futures trade on the <a href="https://www.smartkarma.com/entities/shanghai-shenzhen-csi-300-index" target="_blank" data-smartkarma-citation="entities:22906:1" rel="noopener">Shanghai Shenzhen CSI 300 Index (SHSZ300 INDEX)</a>, the CSI500 Index, and the <a href="https://www.smartkarma.com/entities/shanghai-stock-exchange-sse-50-a-share-index" target="_blank" data-smartkarma-citation="entities:31073:1" rel="noopener">SSE50 Index (SSE50 INDEX)</a>. We are initiating a Korea long to pair with our Singapore short established at 2,950 and outline fresh long support/trade levels for the Nikkei. Downside risk input stems from the SPX fade zone at the topside of the rising wedge (risk of a dip and rally into late February is our base case for the US).Worth noting that Korea displays a compelling bull wedge while Singapore a lower degree micro bear flag formation. Singapore has been our favored short vehicle from the 3,000 top zone in January.
