1Spatial (SPA) announced a three-year contract worth c $0.8m with the State of Montana for its Next Generation 911 solution. The Montana contract, along with recent large contract wins, the accelerating pace of new business, the transition to a higher-margin SaaS business, increased collaboration among data users and success with the ‘Land and Expand’ strategy should support a c 6% CAGR through FY23 and improved margins. We remain encouraged by the long-term potential of the geospatial industry and see scope for further acceleration. While it does trade at a sizable discount to its software peers in terms of price/revenue and EV/EBITDA multiples, we see opportunities for the gap to be reduced, and now is the time for SPA to capitalise on them.

1Spatial - Validating spatial data across the globe

Soon after reporting two large multiyear contract wins, 1Spatial’s H122 results did not disappoint. Headline revenue grew 8% y-o-y to £12.6m, with all global regions contributing, while adjusted EBITDA was up 10% to £1.8m, with relatively steady margins. We have raised our FY22 and FY23 revenue and earnings forecasts to reflect these recent contracts and trends from H122 performance. We remain encouraged by the long-term potential of the geospatial market, recent contract momentum and growth of recurring higher margin licence revenue, and see scope for further acceleration.

1Spatial continued its streak of winning big contracts in the UK and today announced the award of an £8m new multi-year contract, in partnership with a consortium and following a competitive tender, with a department of the UK government. We believe this is its biggest win in company history, two weeks after announcing its c £6.5m contract with the UK government’s Geospatial Commission. The contract will deliver a multi-year digital transformation programme for the department, and we expect management will provide further details on the contract when it releases interim results on 29 September. As a result, we plan to adjust our FY22 and FY23 forecasts once those are announced. Our attention remains on the long-term growth of the geospatial market, with growth rates likely to increase from FY22 through FY23. We are encouraged by the contract momentum and see scope for acceleration, as the UK government’s ‘Build back better and greener’ initiative continues to provide tailwinds for the spatial data market.

1Spatial announced the signing of a new multi-year contract with Atkins to support delivery of the National Underground Asset Register (NUAR) project, with a total potential value of £6.5m over 37 months. The win followed a competitive tender process, and as a key supplier to the UK government’s Geospatial Commission, 1Spatial will be leading the development of the project’s multi-year data transformation and data ingestion programme. We make a slight upgrade to our FY22 and FY23 forecasts to reflect the £0.5m committed portion, while if all goes to plan, the £6.0m optional component would fall in future years. We are encouraged by 1Spatial’s continued contract momentum and see scope for an acceleration given current execution and structural trends.

FY21 results in April indicated a return to organic growth in H2 and positive trading in the current financial year (FY22). 1Spatial’s AGM statement highlights that orders for new sales are up year-on-year so far and refers to a ‘strong and growing pipeline in all regions’, suggesting momentum was sustained in May and most of June. As management is expecting growth and our forecasts include a rise in sales in FY22, we make no changes at this point. However, we continue to see scope for an increase in forecasts if momentum continues.
