1Spatial has announced a two-year contract to build a data verification gateway with High Speed Two (HS2). The deal is worth £0.9m over two years, the majority of which is likely to be a recurring software licence/subscription, with options to extend for a further two years beyond that. The deal provides support for our current estimates, but also highlights the company’s increasingly interesting strategic position as the go-to supplier of location master data management solutions in both the UK and United States. The company’s potential to deliver strong, scalable growth continues to strengthen. We do not believe that the company’s current valuation (EV/sales 1.9x) reflects this potential.

The US market is a key growth engine for 1Spatial and the Caltrans win shows its strategic plan continues to bear fruit. This contract follows other recent wins and extensions in the US market, including with the states of Montana, Georgia, Minnesota and Arizona, and with Google. We are encouraged by its progress and maintain our forecast of significant growth in the US; we have not adjusted our estimates.

1Spatial - Going to California with Caltrans on my mind

1Spatial’s (SPA’s) FY22 reported results surpassed our expectations. Revenues grew 10% to £27m with annualised recurring revenues up 26% (constant currency) to £13.4m, while SPA reported its first group profit before tax in over a decade. SPA’s results were driven by record contract wins across both new and existing customers, ongoing development of smart partnerships and expansion in the key US market. While it trades at a sizable discount to its software peers, we see opportunities to reduce the gap if it continues executing on its growth strategy.
