His references to the need to do something about inclusive growth and to assuage Singaporeans’ concerns about competition from foreign workers suggest that there is now a higher likelihood of policy changes that go beyond the mere cosmetic.</li>
<li>Our best guess would be that changes are coming in four areas: (a) adjustments to current wage policy that would establish a minimum wage in effect; (b) an elementary social safety net for unemployed workers; (c) a new framework for approving foreign professionals; (d) tweaks to the property tax system that would mimic a wealth tax of sorts.</li>
