<h2>2018 in Review</h2><p>The year turned out to be a very poor one for investors in general, and for emerging-market investors in particular. </p><p>Going into 2018, the outlook for the Treasury yield curve was mixed. One view was that reasonable growth, rising inflation, Fed rate hikes and a balance-sheet reduction would lead to higher long-term rates. Another was that the yield curve would continue to flatten if the Fed were to raise rates faster than expected with inflation still below the 2% target. As it turns out, both were correct, with rates increasing and the curve flattening.</p>
