Yesterday, Charoen Pokphand (CP) Group announced its Board of Directors had approved a deal for its subsidiaries to buy 86.9% of <a href="https://www.smartkarma.com/entities/tesco-plc" target="_blank" rel="noopener" data-smartkarma-citation="entities:22187:1">Tesco PLC (TSCO LN)</a>'s Thailand operations and 100% of its Malaysian business for a consideration of US$10.58bn on a cash and debt free basis.The company will fund the acquisition through cash flow from group companies and loans.With the company needing to take on substantial debt, <a href="https://www.smartkarma.com/entities/cp-all-pcl" target="_blank" rel="noopener" data-smartkarma-citation="entities:13889:1">CP All PCL (CPALL TB)</a> sold off 8% yesterday, while this removed an overhang from <a href="https://www.smartkarma.com/entities/berli-jucker-public-co-ltd" target="_blank" rel="noopener" data-smartkarma-citation="entities:3685:1">Berli Jucker (BJC TB)</a> which closed the day almost 2% higher.
