<ul><li>DBS, OCBC and UOB have booked S$500 million in combined net institutional inflow for the 2024 year through to 23 May.</li><li>Combined net interest income (NII) for the trio was S$8.3 billion in 1QFY24, the sixth consecutive quarter combined NII surpassed S$8.0 billion, and up 46% from the combined S$5.7 billion in 4QFY19.</li><li>This compares to the trio averaging 5.8% total returns for the full 2023 year, with S$2.5 billion of combined net institutional outflow.</li></ul>

<li>Kakao Bank (KB) is South Korea’s largest digital bank. It's a subsidiary of Kakao, which holds a 27.3% stake post listing.</li>
<li>It is a branchless digital bank that only started operations in 2017. As of Sep 21, it had a loan book of US$21bn, deposit base of US$24bn and 17.4m customers.</li>
<li>Even though Kakao started operations only in July 2017, by 2020 it had already garnered more than 1% market share of overall loans and deposits in South Korea.</li>
</ul>

Our focus is on what we call “Asian bank research, without the noise.” We are interested in the most critical swing-factors for banks, the NPL and credit cycle, and where we believe there is a gap between perception and reality. Our interpretation of their numbers is less positive than their own presentation. </li>
