Equity Bottom-Up

We retain our fair value estimate of HKD 5.60 per share following the release of Tingyi’s in line first-quarter results, with revenue up 3.7% and net profit up 15.3% from the year-ago period. We view the shares as overvalued, as they are trading at price/fair value estimate of 1.7 times. We saw mixed performance for two major business units with the instant noodle business exceeding the industry average, while the beverage business underperformed the industry average. After several quarters of strategy adjustments, reinforcing sales on the high-end products, its instant noodle sales recovered from a 10% decline in 2016 to a 5.8% growth, which outpaced the overall market sales of 0.8% decline. In contrast, the firm’s 2.8% growth in beverage sales fell short to the market sales of 7.1% growth, and further lost market shares resulting from intensifying industry competition. Tingyi’s profitability remained unchanged compared with the year-ago quarter, as a result of lower operating expenses offset by rising raw material prices.Analyst: Allen Cheng
