<p><strong>NET GAIN</strong> - Forecast Aggregate Net Income for the universe of  Japanese listed companies ended the quarter 23.8%  higher than three months ago - an increase of  ¥5.2 trillion. As a result, the market's forward earnings multiple has declined to 28 times following a 10% increase in total market value (ex REITs). The increase in forecast operating income is a more modest 10.2% reflecting the degree of previously-projected COVID-related extraordinary losses.</p>

Despite a reasonable effort at cost-cutting, aggregate operating margins are still  228 bps below their mid-2018 peak, and it will take at least another eight quarters for that gap to be closed.</p>

No buyback. And there was no earnings forecast for the year to March 2021. Talk in the meeting and presentation about how orders were OK but deliveries in Europe weren't because of the lockdown rules so who knew when things would come back to normal. That trade has done well at +26.2% and +19.6% in 23 weeks and 21 weeks respectively.  </p><p>The question is what does one do now.</p>

On 19 April I wrote about Ricoh's big buyback potential, saying the timing was right in Ricoh's BIG Buyback Potential - The Timing Is Right. I followed up three weeks later with Ricoh Redux:  Get Long Vs Comps just before the earnings announcement which I expected would deliver on the share buyback. We didn't get it. No buyback. And there was no earnings forecast for the year to March 2021. Talk in the meeting and presentation about how orders were OK but deliveries in Europe weren't because of the lockdown rules so who knew when things would come back to normal. MCJ Co., Ltd. manufactures and markets personal computers and its related products.  The Company provides desktop and laptop computers, computer memories, printers, and hard drives.

TOSHIBA TEC CORPORATION manufactures electronic equipment for distribution system, document processing, and household use.  The Company's products include Point of Sale (POS) systems, bar code scanners, copy machines, printers, and vacuum cleaners.

Eizo Corp develops, designs, manufactures, and markets computer displays and monitors for amusement products.  The Company's products include liquid crystal displays (LCD) and cathode ray tube (CRT) displays.
