Japan's Open RAN 5G solution continues to gain traction.<ul>
<li>On December 16, NEC was selected by Telefonica as the system integrator for the first Open RAN pilot system in Germany.</li>
<li>Deutsche Telekom is working with NEC, Fujitsu, Dell, Nokia and others, targeting its first deployment of 4G and 5G Open RAN in 2021.</li>
<li>In late November, Malaysia's Communications and Multimedia Minister Gobind Singh Deo met with NEC, Fujitsu and Rakuten to discuss their 5G proposals.</li>

KDDI has announced consumer 5G plans including additional content alliances with Amazon and DAZN supported by unlimited data use. There is evidence of industry pricing pressure as introductory offers for unlimited data packs that include streaming video are priced under ¥4,000/month whilst student discount offers are less than ¥2,500. This is a partial answer to NTT DoCoMo’s regulatory-driven price cuts (20 GB for ¥2,980/month) although it has yet to unveil pricing for a 20GB plan at the Au main brand. Rakuten is under the most pressure to address pricing now so KDDI (and Softbank) may wait for that announcement before making their own.

The underlying reasons for this collapsing growth such as, the saturation of the under-25 segment, weak penetration among the middle-aged demographic, and falling average price levels, does not seem to be improving, hence, we believe ZOZO’s consignment business growth should not be much higher than the overall online fashion market growth of 5%-10% going forward.In the meantime, there is still a lot of uncertainty surrounding ZOZO’s longer-term growth drivers such as the new ZOZOSUIT 2 and the private label business which are still in their experimental phase. ZOZO is already down 20% from early October, however, we believe a further correction is required to justify ZOZO’s single-digit growth in the medium-term, until the new initiatives start making meaningful contributions to the results.
