Our process begins by organizing the universe of actively traded stocks into discrete sectors, then into industry groups. We then apply our technical and quantitative tools to identify developing price trends. Once attractive trends are identified within a selected sector or group, we screen for individual stocks which we believe offer the best risk/reward profile. We provide a historical perspective that often reveals, through our long-term charts, how price patterns often repeat themselves over time.

Technical Analysis

We believe U.S. equities remain bullish but if they are to continue their ascent we would prefer that those areas also associated with economic expansion could also grab some of the upward momentum. This includes; Energy, Materials, Industrial Manufacturing and the Transportation Sector and even Small-caps. On August 26, 2019, GLOBALFOUNDRIES (GF), filed multiple lawsuits in the U.S. and Germany alleging that semiconductor manufacturing technologies used by <a href="https://www.smartkarma.com/entities/taiwan-semiconductor-manufacturing-company-tsmc" target="_blank" data-smartkarma-citation="entities:11230:1" rel="noopener">Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC)</a> infringe 16 GF patents. Predictably, TSMC responded the following day, alleging that the lawsuit is baseless and vowing to vigorously defend itself.  It's not just TSMC that GF is seeking to pursue for damages, but also the bulk of its flagship customers, the likes of Apple, Qualcomm and NVIDIA. The potential ramifications of GF's legal action are huge, for TSMC, its customers and indeed, the fabless model itself.Do GF's lawsuits have merit and are they likely to succeed? We think not. Here's why.

Until then, it's only a guessing game. Even after Aug 8, it is very possible that we won't have any clearer visual on the situation. Probably, this is what the Japanese government wants: creating uncertainties one after another. Nonetheless, we are not short of local speculations about which specific products or materials to be export restricted in the next round.
