<li>We believe that there is a relatively high probability that the Korean government will lower the highest corporate tax rate bracket from 25% to 22% starting next year.</li>
<li>A 3% change in corporate tax rate should result in about 4% higher net profit for Korean companies.</li>
<li>Among the top 30 companies in Korea, we believe the companies with the biggest impact on lowering their tax rates include LG Electronics, Naver, Kakao Corp, SK Innovation, and KT&amp;G. </li>

We believe that there is a relatively high probability that the Korean government will lower the highest corporate tax rate bracket from 25% to 22% starting next year.
A 3% change in corporate tax rate should result in about 4% higher net profit for Korean companies.
Among the top 30 companies in Korea, we believe the companies with the biggest impact on lowering their tax rates include LG Electronics, Naver, Kakao Corp, SK Innovation, and KT&amp;G. 


Lower Corporate Tax Rate in Korea Could Be an Extra Alpha Kicker

<ul>
<li>We discuss two positive factors pushing greater demand for Korean preference stocks (value &amp; new government) offset by one major negative factor (market liquidity) this year. </li>
<li>The 28 common shares are on average down 17% YTD versus their preference counterparts which are down on average 17.3% YTD.</li>
<li>The sharp increases in common vs preference shares on Amorepacific Corp, Hotel Shilla, and LG H&amp;H last month may be a bit excessive and the gaps are likely to narrow.  </li>

We discuss two positive factors pushing greater demand for Korean preference stocks (value &amp; new government) offset by one major negative factor (market liquidity) this year.

<li>Among the 21 major reopening plays in Korea, we prefer certain sectors including casino related plays (GKL, Paradise, and Kangwon Land) as well as F&amp;B related (Hitejinro and CJ Cheiljedang).</li>

<li>LG Corp announced a share buyback worth 500 billion won, representing 4.3% of market cap. This is the company's first major buyback in 22 years.</li>
<li>LG Corp will also remove the "limit" on dividend income, in order to secure the flexibility of the dividend income such as when one of its affiliated stakes are sold.</li>
<li>A sizeable buyback, improved dividend policy, and a significant discount to its NAV are likely to lead to continued outperformance of LG Corp relative to KOSPI. </li>
