Periscope Analytics

Periscope Analytics focuses on event-driven trades across Asia Pacific and provides comprehensive, timely and systematic coverage of index changes to major Asia Pacific indices in a structured manner.

The analysis includes forecasted inclusions and exclusions to all major Asian indices that have significant amount of tracking assets, including estimates of passive buy/sell flow on the stocks. The service also provides commentary and impact of market consultations, ground rule changes, and other events (IPOs, spin-offs, M&A) that could lead to index changes and passive flow.

Periscope Analytics works with multi-strategy hedge funds, proprietary trading firms, stat arb trading groups and long-only investors that invest and trade in the Asia Pacific region with the data being used to trade index rebalances, avoid pre-positioning and passive flow, and to time entry into and exit from stocks.

<li>We had forecast most of the changes (10 adds and 9 deletes), so there are a few surprises. The inclusion of <a href="https://www.smartkarma.com/entities/sillajen-inc" target="_blank" data-smartkarma-citation="entities:22838:1" rel="noopener">SillaJen Inc (215600 KS)</a> is the biggest one.</li>
<li>The adds to the index become short sell eligible from the open of trading on 9 December while the deletions will not be short sell eligible from the same time.</li>

There are 11 inclusions and 11 exclusions for the KOSDAQ 150 Index (KOSDQ150 INDEX) at the December rebalance to be implemented at the close on 8 December.
We had forecast most of the changes (10 adds and 9 deletes), so there are a few surprises. The inclusion of SillaJen Inc (215600 KS) is the biggest one.
The adds to the index become short sell eligible from the open of trading on 9 December while the deletions will not be short sell eligible from the same time.


KOSDAQ150 Index Rebalance: 11 Changes with a Couple of Surprises

Lotte Confectionery (280360 KS) was a high probability add while Samyang Holdings (000070 KS) was the second delete on the list. Hyundai Home Shopping Network (057050 KS) avoided deletion.
Passive trackers will need to buy around 14 days of ADV on Lotte Confectionery (280360 KS) and sell nearly 13 days of ADV on Samyang Holdings (000070 KS).


KOSPI200 Index Rebalance: Just One Change

<ul>
<li>With the review period complete, we see 1 high probability change and 1 lower probability change for the <a href="https://www.smartkarma.com/entities/korea-stock-exchange-kospi-200-index" target="_blank" data-smartkarma-citation="entities:26021:1" rel="noopener">Korea Stock Exchange Kospi 200 Index (KOSPI2 INDEX)</a> in December.</li>
<li>We estimate passive trackers will need to trade over 10 days of ADV on the high probability names. There are indications that there are pre-positions built on the stocks.</li>
<li>With short-sell eligibility flipping post implementation of the changes, a lot of pre-positions will be unwound prior to implementation and there will be trading opportunities on the reverse side.</li>
