Once attractive trends are identified within a selected sector or group, we screen for individual stocks which we believe offer the best risk/reward profile. We provide a historical perspective that often reveals, through our long-term charts, how price patterns often repeat themselves over time.

Technical Analysis

Our weight of the evidence approach continues to lead us to our view that the market remains mixed-yet-constructive overall. We explain our outlook below. The S&amp;P 500 remains bullish, progressing past our first target of 4350 and now on its way to our next target of 4400-4406. As long as 4257-4275 support holds, we expect to see 4400 followed by 4460. Should 4257 fail to hold, our next support levels to watch would be 4164 followed by 4120; we are constructive as long as 4120 holds.

Market dynamics remain largely bullish and we continue to see signs of improving risk appetites. As a result, we are on the verge of shifting to an outright bullish stance. High yield spreads hit new 2021 narrows on Friday as they moved to 14-year lows. Additionally, defensive areas including Staples (XLP), Utilities (XLU), and Gold (GLD) are breaking to new 2021 RS lows.

Market dynamics remain largely bullish and we continue to see signs of improving risk appetites. As a result, we are on the verge of shifting to an outright bullish stance. The good news is the S&amp;P 500 rallied to a marginal all-time high last week. The bad news is it was accompanied by numerous negative divergences. How investors react to current conditions will depend on their time horizon.Investment-oriented accounts need to recognize that the primary trend is still up. Stay long equities and don’t worry about minor blips in the market.On the other hand, traders don’t need to be always aggressively long or aggressively short. This is a time to step to the sidelines. Our base-case scenario calls for a period of sideways and choppy sideways price action. Pullbacks should be relatively shallow and limited to drawdowns of 5% or less.
