We maintain our fair value estimate of HKD 13.00 per share for Hong Kong and China Gas, or HKCG, following our recent review of the company’s business, and we remain comfortable with our long-term assumptions. Growth will continue to be driven by its China towngas operations, in which we estimate 9% average annual growth of gas sales volume to 2020.We remain positive on China’s long-term natural gas consumption growth, as the severe air pollution issue sees the government actively promoting natural gas via gas-fired power and heating systems, at the expense of coal, which should drive healthy long-term growth. We think the wider adoption of natural gas will receive a boost as the country shifts to more market-oriented pricing, and we anticipate this to occur within the next 10 years. We think this provides ample opportunities for gas distributors, and bodes well for HKCG’s long-term growth, given its leading position in gas distribution and strong financial position.Analysts: Jennifer Song and Lorraine Tan, CFA

The first 10 months of 2016 brought its fair share of macroeconomic challenges to the region. During the 10 months, the Straits Times Index (STI) generated a 1% total return, which was not far behind that of the MSCI AC Asia Pacific Index. However, the 1% gain is hardly the full story for the 30 STI stocks in the year thus far.  All five Global Industry Classification Standards (GICS®) Sectors without STI representation also generated gains over the first 10 months. These Sectors are also at junctures of opportunity and challenge, with Sector-wide themes such as technology disruptors, population longevity &amp; growth and asymmetric trends in commodity prices. The five Sectors have also become increasingly important for investors who seek portfolio diversification in times of increased economic uncertainty.

With a somewhat certain 28-30% gain in the earning as early Q1 2022, investors should start slowly building positions in SAS as the risk-off beast may disturb the confidence in the equity market much longer than what investors would like. The second scenario of increasing stake in Parade Tech should be treated as a call option as when it happens, it is a bonus of another 24%. Thus the total upside could be around 54%.
