Our process begins by organizing the universe of actively traded stocks into discrete sectors, then into industry groups. We then apply our technical and quantitative tools to identify developing price trends. Once attractive trends are identified within a selected sector or group, we screen for individual stocks which we believe offer the best risk/reward profile. We provide a historical perspective that often reveals, through our long-term charts, how price patterns often repeat themselves over time.

Technical Analysis

Last week's FOMC announcement was more hawkish than expected, and the market took the news in stride. Market dynamics have improved significantly since the announcement, which has us inching toward an outright bullish outlook; we are just waiting for price breakouts from cyclical areas including small-caps (IWM), Financials (XLF), and Energy (XOP).Charts highlighted: COP, EOG, DVN, CLR, FANG, MRO, XEC, COG, AR, MUR, USB, PNC, FITB, KEY, RF, CMA, SIVB, WAL, EWBC, ZION, PACW, UMPQ, FHB, and CATY.

10-Yr Treasury Yield Breaking Out; Downgrading U.S. Consumer Staples and Utilities To Underweight

The technical narrative of the U.S. equity market remains bullish, and it’s not the S&amp;P 500 and Russell 2000’s new highs that are talking the loudest -- it’s the Sector and Group trends. With the exception of Consumer Discretionary, cyclicals continue to outperform.  In addition, bank stocks are recovering from failed breakdowns, aided by a rebound in interest rates and, setting the stage for another leg higher. A shrinking work week and lackluster hourly wage growth amid higher inflation could be pinching consumers.A weak consumption report for February and huge downward revisions to the January consumption growth rates indicate that some of last week's caution may have been warranted.  Soft auto data at the end of the week indicated that consumption growth may not accelerate in March.The two other big pieces of data last week were the U.S. employment report, which was slightly better than expected, and purchasing data from around the world that came in better than hoped, with forward-looking data on new orders driving the composite index sharply higher, especially in the United States.Analysts: Robert Johnson &amp; Alina Tarlea
