There were a couple of news items this week that convinced me that the Singapore government will not protect traditional businesses or practices, from disruption. After the third generation (Ee) control the banking and securities business, the future generation (Teng) have branched out in restaurants (Lo &amp; Behold) and laundry. Many of their former employees have also gone on to be very successful, leading units of Aberdeen and RHB, but none of them is more famous than the former remeiser Peter Lim, who became a billionaire in his own rights through the Wilmar deal. Today, Peter Lim routinely shows up as one of Singapore's top ten tycoons and owns the pretty good Spanish football Valencia (currently ranked 17th on La Liga Spain). Though investments is not the key point of this short series, we highlight what some of our other colleagues feel about UOB and related companies today. Hint: It's not so cool these days yo.

Talkmed Group Limited provides medical oncology services to patients.

Q & M Dental Group (Singapore) Limited operates dental clinics. The Company offers aesthetic, children's and general dentistry; fits crowns, dentures and braces; and offers bleeding gum treatment, gum surgery and oral surgery; and treats snoring and teeth grinding.

Healthway Medical Corp. Ltd. provides outpatient medical services in Singapore. The Company offers care in the areas of family medicine, specialists care, dental and oral care and medical aesthetics.

ISEC Healthcare Ltd. provides eyecare (ophthalmology) services in Malaysia and Singapore. The Company provides clinical care, research and educational services. ISEC Healthcare operates across Malaysia and Singapore.

OUE Lippo Healthcare Limited ("OUELH") is a subsidiary company of OUE Limited ("OUE") and is listed on the Catalist Board of Singapore Exchange Securities Trading Limited.

Established in May 2001, Cordlife Group Limited ("Cordlife", together with its subsidiaries, the "Group") is a leading company dedicated to safeguarding the well-being of mother and child. The Group is listed on the Mainboard of the Singapore Exchange since 2012 and is a pioneer in private cord blood banking in Asia.

Cordlife owns the largest network of cord blood banks in Asia with full stem cell banking facilities in six key markets, namely Singapore, Hong Kong, Indonesia, India, Malaysia and the Philippines. AsiaMedic Limited is a healthcare provider that focuses on the management of clinical services in the fields of disease prevention, early illness detection, and advanced diagnostics. The Company provides clinical and management services in Singapore and Internationally.

Religare Health Trust is structured as a business trust and invests in medical and healthcare assets and services in Asia, Australasia and emerging markets.

Regis Healthcare Limited is a treatment program that offers Family Therapy, Clinical Psychology, Education and Occupational Therapy.

Vibhavadi Medical Center Public Company Limited owns and operates the Vibhavadi Hospital. Located in Bangkok, the Hospital provides full range of medical services.

H.U. Group Holdings Inc. provides health care testing services. The Company provides contract clinical testing and clinical laboratory drug services for cancer, malignant tumor, hypothyroidism, diabetes, and infectious diseases. H.U. Group Holdings also conducts sterilization related business.

Shenzhen Neptunus Bioengineering Co., Ltd. develops, manufactures, and markets biochemical pharmaceuticals, biological products, traditional Chinese medicines, and healthcare products.  Through its subsidiaries, the Company also manufactures food.

Searainbow Holding Corp., produces chemical fibers and other textile products. The company, through its subsidiaries, also provides medical e-commerce and on-line games.

Zhejiang Dian Diagnostics Co., Ltd. provides medical diagnostic solutions, as an outsourcer, to various general hospitals, specialized hospitals, community health service centers (stations), township (county) hospitals, medical centers,  disease prevention and control centers.

Rhoen-Klinikum AG operates general, rehabilitation, and emergency health care facilities which offer inpatient and outpatient medical care to various communities in Germany.  These clinics and hospitals offer cardiological, surgical, psychiatric, neurological and neurosurgical, orthopedic, addiction treatment, and physical therapy services.

CVS Group PLC provides animal veterinary and related services. The Company sells animal medicines and a range of pet products directly to consumers. CVS Group operates throughout the United Kingdom.

Netcare Limited is a South African hospital promotion and management company that owns and operates a number of private hospitals and clinics.

Life Healthcare Group Holdings Ltd operates healthcare facilities in South Africa.  The Company operates acute care hospitals, long-term care facilities, physical and cognitive rehabilitation services for disabling injuries, and on-site occupational and primary healthcare services.

Thomson Medical Group Limited is a real estate group with capabilities in planning, architecture, engineering, investment, and development. The Company primarily engages in real estate and infrastructure development, consultancy services, real estate management, and investment holdings.
