On the 10th of November, the State Administration for Industry and Commerce (SAIC) issued a draft legislature on the “Guidelines on Anti-monopoly in the Field of Platform Economy”. In this note, we take a look at how the new anti-monopoly regulations would affect Alibaba.

While a more cautious outlook is appropriate, as long as $77 holds (the September lows) we are constructive and would be buyers on a pullback. A move below $77 would start to get very concerning, and would leave $75 and the 200-day MA as last-ditch support. Considering the recent pullback we want to be sticking with areas that have continued to outperform in spite of recent broad market weakness. For that we look to the following leadership Sectors: Technology, Consumer Discretionary, Manufacturing, Materials, and Transportation

In 3Q2020, the company set revenue guidance of ¥1,990bn for FY2020, but eventually achieved revenue of ¥2,008.8bn, 0.95% above guidance. On the other hand, Fast Retailing generated an OP of ¥149.3bn, which was higher than the company’s 3Q2020 OP guidance of ¥130bn.
In our last two quarterly results analysis insights, we mentioned that Fast retailing could be keeping a little bit of a buffer at the OP level as we felt that they are being a bit aggressive with the revenue forecast.
