<p>The first sector is <strong>Consumer</strong>, where H/A spreads widened on average 2.7% for the week, more than cancelling out the average 1.7% spread narrowing last week. With the exception of <a href="https://www.smartkarma.com/entities/hisense-home-appliances-group-co-ltd-h" target="_blank" data-smartkarma-citation="entities:20107:1" rel="noopener">Hisense Home Appliances Group Co., Ltd. H (921 HK)</a>, this happened as the H-shares rose strongly and the A-Shares rose even more strongly.  </p>
<p>Southbound investors through the Shenzhen-HK and Shanghai-HK Connect were significant net sellers during the week in both <a href="https://www.smartkarma.com/entities/tsingtao-brewery-co-ltd-h" target="_blank" data-smartkarma-citation="entities:1296:1" rel="noopener">Tsingtao Brewery Co Ltd H (168 HK)</a> and <a href="https://www.smartkarma.com/entities/hisense-home-appliances-group-co-ltd-h" target="_blank" data-smartkarma-citation="entities:20107:1" rel="noopener">Hisense Home Appliances Group Co., Ltd. H (921 HK)</a> where the net selling activity amounted to 15.5% and 22% of volume respectively. </p>
<p>Hisense remains at the overbought end of the 52-week range. <a href="https://www.smartkarma.com/entities/great-wall-motor-co-ltd-cb302af9-398c-4d2d-ba39-023e43287eef" target="_blank" data-smartkarma-citation="entities:128:1" rel="noopener">Great Wall Motor (2333 HK)</a> and <a href="https://www.smartkarma.com/entities/guangzhou-automobile-group-co-ltd" target="_blank" data-smartkarma-citation="entities:11082:1" rel="noopener">Guangzhou Automobile Group (2238 HK)</a> are now at 52-week wides. </p>

<p>Last week's recommendation was to take off Hisense and the H-share fell 7.3% while the spread widened 0.7%. It is still probably worth unwinding. At this point, Great Wall and Guangzhou are worth a buy on a spread basis.</p>

On average,

<p>In the example for the H/A spreads in the <strong>Materials</strong> sector below, spreads were generally flat over the past five days and were wider by 1.5% over the past 20 days. <p><a href="https://www.smartkarma.com/entities/imax-china-holding-inc" target="_blank" data-smartkarma-citation="entities:888:1" rel="noopener">Imax China Holding (1970 HK)</a> is having difficulty due to the capacity constraint in the cinema despite a reopening relief that saw its ticket sales jumped multiple folds during the release of the nationalistic-themed <strong>The Eight Hundred</strong>. With the upcoming Golden Week, the company will benefit from a higher box office thus the share price will see some positive sentiment in the short term. </p>
<p>The issue remains until a vaccine is found; limited capacity and high fixed cost are the main issues that will be the deterrent for the stock price to go up. </p>
<p><strong>For long-only investors</strong> - the limited capacity coupled with the uncertain timing on the vaccine development may prolong the weak earnings, creating a weak long term story for the company. However, the upcoming Golden Week will provide a short term rally.</p>
<p><strong>For long-short investors</strong> - IMAX China's share price may not decrease by much but it will be an excellent relative value/pair against a long of <a href="https://www.smartkarma.com/entities/alibaba-pictures-group-ltd" target="_blank" data-smartkarma-citation="entities:20724:1" rel="noopener">Alibaba Pictures (1060 HK)</a> that is in the middle of transformation to produce reality shows in China. The ratio of long Alibaba Pictures and short iMax China has increased to 0.096 as of 16th September from 0.082 in mid of June 2020. </p>

Although there are almost no assets indexed to the HSCI, the index forms the basis of stocks that are eligible for Southbound Stock Connect. Stocks that are included in the HSCI and subsequently included in the Stock Connect program could see large inflows from mainland investors.</p><p>In this Insight, we take a look at the exclusion names that have high Southbound shareholdings and could see some selling ahead of the move to a 'sell-only' Southbound list, and at inclusion names that could see Southbound inflows over the weeks after inclusion into the Stock Connect buy/sell list.</p>

Stocks that are included in the HSCI and subsequently included in the Stock Connect program get inflows from mainland investors.</p><p>From the upcoming review, Biotech companies listed under Chapter 18A of the HKEX Main Board listing rules will be eligible for inclusion in the HSCI. This is a huge change given that Biotech is a big investment theme in the current environment and mainland investors could come rushing into these names.</p><p>We see 22 possible inclusions in the HSCI (and consequently becoming eligible for Stock Connect) and 10 deletions (which will take the stocks off the eligible buy list and make them eligible for sell-only via Stock Connect).</p>
