DiDi Chuxing (Didi), the world’s largest mobility technology platform, aims to raise around US$10bn in its US listing. It is backed by Softbank and Tencent, along with other investors.It is present in over 4,000 cities, counties and towns across 15 countries. As of twelve months ending (LTM) 1Q21, it had 493m annual active users and 15m drivers, who participated in 41m average daily transactions. It generated a gross transaction value of RMB341bn over LTM1Q21.  In this note, we provide a brief background and financials overview.

There has been an uptick in Softbank news this week as we enter the last stretch of the quarter. On one hand there has been good news as Vision Fund 2’s public portfolio expands, thanks to a successful listing for Zhangmen, two coincident IPO investments and an IPO filing for investee Dingdong Maicai. But the long-expected bankruptcy of Katerra also means another $2bn of Vision Fund value has been wiped off the board so what markets are hearing on Softbank remains decidedly mixed. We have updated our Softbank tables including public portfolio valuations, the holding company discount, and the IPO pipeline.

Full Truck Alliance Pre-IPO - The Negatives - Still a Mixed Bag

It is backed by Softbank and Sequoia.Full Truck Alliance (FTA) was formed in 2017 via a merger of Yunmanman and Huochebang, which had been operational since 2013 and 2011, respectively. It is the largest digital freight platform in China and the world, as per CIC. In 2020, 71.7m orders were fulfilled on the platform, with a gross transaction value (GTV) of RMB173.8bn (US$26.6bn), by 2.8m truckers. It had 1.3m active shippers in Dec 2020. Approximately 20% of all China’s heavy-duty and medium-duty truckers fulfilled shipping orders on its platform in 2020, according to CIC.FTA is the leader in its category and appears to be well ahead of other competitors, as per CIC. The company has been working on various means of monetising its user base. While 2020 wasn’t a great year for revenue growth, the company did manage to turn a profit and was cash flow positive as well.

JD.com's shares are down 35% from its recent high in February as Beijing scrutinises large domestic internet players. That's a significant move - and value at the stub level is emerging.

Reportedly the retail proportion was 141x oversubscribed on the opening day.
JD.com's stake will decline to 64.4% (63.5% including the over-allotment) from 71.57% currently.
JD.com's shares are down 35% from its recent high in February as Beijing scrutinises large domestic internet players. That's a significant move - and value at the stub level is emerging.
