The two factors in <a href="https://www.smartkarma.com/insights/asianomics-investment-strategy-for-2018" target="_blank">Asianomics Investment Strategy for 2018</a> which influenced our decision to go overweight Japanese equities were improvements in our Austrian indicators: the Japanese investment cycle and a significant turnaround in the amount and direction of broad money growth. But that was before we had full year 2017 information on corporate earnings. When full year RoE data became available in February, we realised that had we known then what we know now, Japan would have made our strongest conviction overweight call. The country's full year returns are better than they ever were, meaning so is Japan’s profit cycle.
