Athaporn Arayasantiparb, CFA

Athaporn served as Head of Research for UOB and ANZ in Thailand and was an award-winning telecoms analyst at UBS in 2010 (AsiaMoney Thailand category) and Regional Strategist for DMG in Singapore. Prior to that, he also served as Kasikornbank credit analyst and scholar. He has a total work experience of 22 years, of which 19 were in research and 9 in research management roles. He started his career as an engineer for PTT and currently manages family investments. He holds an MBA from Stern (NYU) and CFA Charter since 2006.

<p>We have done many company visits to Golden Land, one of the earlier listed property subsidiaries under Charoen's TCC Group. Today, we did something a little different by walking down the lanes of their new mixed use (retail/office) project called Samyan Mitr Town located near Chulalongkorn University, an area famous for congee (rice soup). Here's our first impressions:</p><ul>
<li>Some interesting, though not entirely new, concepts such as movie buffet and co-working space, which we have seen before (but infrequently) at TCC or rival properties.</li>
<li>The newness, and variety of stores should be a magnet at least during these early days. The draw of its good location (big captive audience at Chulalongkorn and DTAC) may allow them to retain much of the traffic.</li>
<li>One of the better names in property as per our own previous companies, Country Group's bullish price target, and recent share price performance, which held out quite well.</li>
