To reduce imports the Trump administration can follow a simple policy prescription:<ul><li>Engage with a small number of multi national companies and encourage them to manufacture in the US</li><li>Institute a 'Don't buy Chinese, Save your money' policy</li><li>Subsidise Boeing</li></ul>This is clearly a lot easier to say than to implement, but our review of the trade exposures of the US identify this as the clearest policy path.  The Trump administration actually has a clear aim to weaken the US dollar, we believe that the mix of policies followed by the government would actually lead to a weaker rather than stronger dollar
