<ul><li>The domestic economy is in much better shape as public sector spending has bolstered growth rates. Domestic demand continues to firm while tourism has become a pillar of the economy. However, private investment remains muted as businesses hold off on large-scale, long-term plans in light of potential political uncertainty.</li><li>The agricultural sector has weathered the worst of the drought and falling commodity prices; prices and incomes have increased while production has moderated its decline. A sustained recovery in the farm sector look increasingly likely and this will lead to more robust private consumption levels, injecting more momentum into the economic upswing.</li><li>As the referendum on the draft Constitution looms large, there have been increasingly vocal calls for open discussion and greater clarity on the alternatives should the draft charter be rejected at the ballot boxes. As opposition to the draft charter grows, it seems likely that the military government will continue at the helm for some time yet.</li></ul>
