Athaporn served as Head of Research for UOB and ANZ in Thailand and was an award-winning telecoms analyst at UBS in 2010 (AsiaMoney Thailand category) and Regional Strategist for DMG in Singapore. Prior to that, he also served as Kasikornbank credit analyst and scholar. He has a total work experience of 22 years, of which 19 were in research and 9 in research management roles. He started his career as an engineer for PTT and currently manages family investments. He holds an MBA from Stern (NYU) and CFA Charter since 2006.

<p>Thailand will vote on the constitutional referendum in two weeks (August 7). Rejection, which seems more likely due to support by the two key political parties, is likely to force the military government to remain in power for at least six months. This could hurt sectors affected by government policies such as telecoms, banks, and consumers, while benefiting others that benefit from stimulus, such as property, construction, and basically anything that is infrastructure-related. Unlike the previous Yingluck administration, the military government clearly favors one economic engine (investment) over the other (domestic consumption). There is little they can do to improve exports or tourism.</p>
