Athaporn Arayasantiparb, CFA

Athaporn served as Head of Research for UOB and ANZ in Thailand and was an award-winning telecoms analyst at UBS in 2010 (AsiaMoney Thailand category) and Regional Strategist for DMG in Singapore. Prior to that, he also served as Kasikornbank credit analyst and scholar. He has a total work experience of 22 years, of which 19 were in research and 9 in research management roles. He started his career as an engineer for PTT and currently manages family investments. He holds an MBA from Stern (NYU) and CFA Charter since 2006.

We met up with three companies that can be broadly described as industrial. While discussing their operations in the recent quarter, we also got a sense of how they dealt with the Trumpian trade war and its resolution:<ul>

Shipper PSL (Precious Shipping) actually believes that they come out winning when the Trumpian trade wars are resolved. China may be required to buy coal, grain, and oil &amp; gas from America rather than Asia, and this requires more ships to transport them.</li>
<li>
Power company SSP (Sermsang Power) doesn't even bother. They build power plants in many Asian markets (Japan, Mongolia, Vietnam). Neither China nor America or the word trade war even shows up in the discussion.</li>
<li>
EPG (Eastern Polymer) also does not report facing any resistance of difficulty importing to America or other countries, suggesting that the whole trade war issue may be a bit overblown. Having said that, they do have distribution hubs within America itself.</li>
