<ul><li>The Thai economy remains weak as exports, industrial production and inflation languish in negative territory. However, there are a few bright spots, most notably the growth in capital goods imports, the resilience of tourism and the acceleration of fiscal spending.</li><li>We think that while fragile, the economy is seeking a bottom and a small uptick is likely by the end of the year. Forward-looking indicators are bullish and the nascent recovery observed in major trading partners will drive a cyclical improvement.</li><li>Significantly, political tribulations continue to cloud the economic outlook. A return to democracy will have to wait till 2017, after the draft Constitution was voted down in Sep 15. The political malaise continues to hold back economic progress; it remains to be seen if the military government is able to promulgate effective economic policies.</li></ul>
