Chartonics weekly Monday 16 May 2016Summer play book - S&amp;P 2,030Emerging markets remain the top short bet and weakest region followed by Europe.In this issue we take a bigger picture look for our summer decline, base/turn targets and rally into year end.S&amp;P 2,058 pivot support will shape trade this week. A sustained break implies pressure on 2,030 support for a decline to 1,980. S&amp;P rise above 2,058 would threaten 2,080 resistance but 2,100 is the topside cap given weakening sector signals.DXY rally off of 92 is expected to test/clear 96.50 resistance for a push to 99 where we may see a DXY slide within the broader flat range.Europe’s bearish wedge patterns show an 85% probability of plunging to new chart lows with Euro banks leading the decline. New cycle chart lows would provide a good buying opportunity and platform to rally from into year end.S&amp;P 2,100 top zone to see a mid-degree correction of 6-12% with supports at 1,920 and 1,820/50. US equities will outperform but by late June Europe will find relative support.EEM 30.50 pivot support is the line in the sand for an early summer low or a secondary break down to 27.50 for an excellent strategic buying opportunity.Short EM positions – We are short HK property as a key theme (plan to re short H shares), Singapore, Korea, Australia (short AUD) and Russia. Bear/short bias in H shares/China and Taiwan. Short Asia FX.China – Shanghai called down to 2,400 where we would turn bullish. Need to see copper fallout to 180/150 to form a base. Q3 China recovery may see slow ignition.India is a market we like strategically (it is consensus however) out of the bullish channel with a Nifty summer pullback target of 7,200 and future rally target of 8,600.Taiwan will become more attractive below 7,000, HSI at 17,000 and H shares at 7,000 this summer. Our STI target remains at 2,400. We look for strategic bull turns off of these important support levels.Cycles – Many EM’s are nearing oversold levels but bounce patterns are lacking. Continued weakness could very well induce a round of panic selling, USD strength as flows reverse.Regards,
