<ul><li>The Singapore economy registered growth to the upper end of the official forecast in 1Q17, buoyed by robust exports. Manufacturing continued its rebound, construction languished and services notched growth at lowered levels.</li><li>The central bank MAS, on the back of brighter growth and inflation prospects, has opted to keep the S$NEER policy band unchanged at a rate of zero appreciation.</li><li>A three-track economy is becoming more pronounced: 1) the trade-related sector which will be an outsized winner; 2) social services sector which will be undergirded by government spending in light of shifting demographics; and 3) domestic-oriented services which is under strain due to the fragile labour market.</li></ul>
