<p>The Indian rupee is taking a beating. Since January the currency has depreciated by 7.4% against the US dollar. The Indonesian rupiah, also under pressure due to a widening current account deficit, has weakened by 7.3% over the same period. On Friday 29 June the Bank Indonesia raised policy rates by another 50bp to 5.25%, to defend the embattled currency. That’s a cumulative 100bp increase in rates so far this year.
