Robert Sassoon

Robert Sassoon has been an equity analyst for more than twenty years focusing primarily on global special situations. Robert has worked in research for several large sell-side institutions, including Credit Suisse, Natwest Capital Markets and Societe Generale. <p>The recently announced Reverse Morris Trust transaction involving the merger of Pfizer's  (PFE US) off-patent business (Upjohn) with Mylan (MYL US) is a transformative one for the latter, a leading generic pharma company operating in an industry challenged by multiple headwinds.  The proposed merger is a near-term positive for Mylan,  although still leaves lingering questions over long-term prospects.</p><p>While we are not particularly endeared to this segment of the pharma induustry for the reasons we delve into more deeply below, nevertheless there is potential for lucrative trading opportunities. We think there is a profitable pair trade to make by going long Mylan and shorting Teva. Although this trade has effectively been in play since early May 2019, in the context of our assessed share price value range for Mylan based on the prospective merger, which we believe widens Mylan's advantage over Teva, we believe this strategy remains a potentially lucrative one with Teva still trading a questionable value premium over Mylan.</p>
