A mixed bag of signals, but generally better than thought<ul>

GDP contraction in 3Q15: The economy shrank 0.8% y/y (annualised rate), after falling 0.7% in 2Q15 but a massive inventory drawdown was the principal factor. Final demand continued to grow.</li>

Underlying inflation still positive: While headline consumer inflation rose 0.3% y/y in October, up from zero in September. The "core-core inflation" measure, which the BOJ prefers, edged up by 0.7%, moderating from September's 0.9%.</li>
