<ul class="ul1"><li class="li1">In October the MNI China Consumer Sentiment Indicator (CSI) increased to a level of 117.1, just above the depressed threshold of 116 indicating consumers are in a state of panic.</li></ul><ul class="ul1"><li class="li1">Reflecting the stimulatory effect of the ongoing surge in real estate prices the Current Conditions Index surged to the highest levels seen since May 2014. Although surging real estate prices are boosting the economy now, they represent a growing imbalance and pose a major risk to the economy longer term. In line with this the Expectations Index remains very depressed.</li></ul><ul class="ul1"><li class="li1">China’s economy is very dependent on the real estate market. Activity stemming from the property market is estimated to account for 15-25% of China’s GDP. </li></ul><ul class="ul1"><li class="li1">A correction in the real estate market has the potential to destabilize China’s economy.</li></ul><ul class="ul1"><li class="li1">In the following report we detail how the recent implementation of property curbs risk triggering a correction in the real estate market and what this means for both China and the global economy. </li></ul>
