<li>Two weeks in and Omicron strain is seemingly less virulent than other strains (including Delta) and vaccines/booster jabs are still partly effective at protecting against severe illness or death.</li>
<li>Delta is still dominant strain worldwide and a number of EU governments, faced with rising death rates, had already started tightening social distancing measures weeks before Omicron was first reported.</li>
