Chartonics weekly Monday 23 May 2016Dollar adding to EM pressure – Squeeze riskEmerging markets remain the top short bet and weakest region followed by Europe.USD firing on all cylinders with more pain ahead for EM FX once we clear DXY 96.50. We will be updating FX specifics in a separate webcast each week. Clearing 95.30-40 targets 96.50 for the real pressure test. IDR and INR breakout flow toward BRL and RUB laggard plays as EM FX pressure mounts.S&amp;P – Until we break 2,030 (favored bias) we are at risk of an uptick. We added to our S&amp;P pair long and plan to reduce our tech short. Break below S&amp;P 2,030 needed to help shorts in Europe &amp; EM. Breaking 2,030 support targets 1,980 and 1,850.Brent short from 49.30 gels with our short Russia position. Buying USD/RUB now looks viable. Brent protective stop at 49.22, 48.13 is the level to crack.T Note triangle maturing. Gold bid bias on risk off cycle but faces USD headwinds. AUD/JPY triangle to break lower.Europe exhibits near term risk of a bounce within the MT range to relieve oversold readings (adjust if we clear CAC 4,375). Pattern support breaks to induce new chart lows this summer.EEM 30.50 pivot support is the line in the sand for an early summer low or a secondary break down to 27.50 for an excellent strategic buying opportunity in June/July. This week watch EEM RSI 40 to signal a short squeeze sequence.Short EM positions – Short HK property as a key theme (plan to re short H shares), Singapore, Korea, Australia and Russia. Bear/short bias in H shares/China and Taiwan. Brazil is now on our short list into an uptick. Turkey is a short near 78k+.China – Shanghai 3,000 sell call targets 2,400 this summer with copper sliding to 180/150.India is the only market we are long in Asia as a relative bet. We like the Nifty strategically near 7,200 with a worst case slump to 6,400.Taiwan summer target at 7,000, HSI at 17,000 and H shares at 7,000. STI target remains at 2,400.Cycles – Watching for signs of a brief short squeeze in EM’s this week given many markets are reaching oversold levels with minor S&amp;P uptick pressure. Upside hedge options are S&amp;P, HSI and possibly Taiwan. HK property, Japan/BOJ policy and the stronger USD in the spotlight this week.
