<ul class=""><li class="">December brought with it not only the release of much awaited movies such as Star Wars: The Last Jedi and the remake of Jumanji but also the news of Walt Disney Company acquiring a significant chunk of 21<sup>st</sup> Century Fox. Set at USD 52.4 billion, the deal (if it does not encounter any regulatory roadblocks) will give Disney control over 21<sup>st</sup> Century Fox’s TV and movie operations, cable entertainment networks, regional sports networks and international TV businesses.</li><li class="">Disney will also acquire Fox’s 30% stake in online video streaming service Hulu, bringing Disney’s stake in the company up to 60% (Disney owns 30% of Hulu already). Sony and Comcast were also interested in acquiring some of Fox’s assets before the deal finally fell into the hands of Disney.</li><li class="">This has left the other major Hollywood studios in somewhat of a tough spot as the Disney-Fox merger will increase Disney’s stake in the industry, further strengthening its position as market leader.
