<p>A trade war between China and the US has been looming since March on China’s “Made in China 2025” plan, which aims to greatly improve the competitiveness of Chinese manufacturing industry and enable China to become a manufacturing powerhouse. This study examines the present state of Chinese manufacturing including its size, structure, and issues. Also, this study answers these questions: (1) what the “Made in China 2025” plan is; (2) its background; and (3) the possibility of its success. Finally, considering the importance of “Made in China 2025” to the future of the Chinese economy, we conclude that it would be very difficult for China to make substantial concessions during this trade war.  </p>
